Man’s life here on earth is limited. Time comes when man has to depart from this world. This happens through death or it may happen through rapture for those that rapture will find them alive. But have you ever asked yourself what really happens when someone dies?

This should be a question that should bother at least everyone living in this world. We all know that we are not permanent in this world as  there is life after death of which we should always try to find out exactly what happens when one dies.

Jesus Christ tried to highlight on this in the parable of a beggar known as Lazarus and the rich man. The two men had different kinds of lives and social status while living in this world.

While the rich man had all what he needed to a comfortable life here on earth, Lazarus was always in need. His health had deteriorated and had sores all over his body and fed from the crumbs that fell from the rich mans table.

But finally when the two died, their earthly lifestyle didn’t follow them to the next world. There was a complete contrast in their lives after death. Lazarus who suffered when he was on the earth was now enjoying in the bosom of Abraham while the rich man being tormented in the lake of fire.

This parable gives us a glimpse of how life changes when transit to the other world. First of all when one dies, his body and spirit are separated. The body returns from the ground where it came from while the spirit which is exactly who we are goes to the spirit world.

There are different teachings on where the spirit goes after death, some say that it goes to a place called Purgatory a place where someone’s spirit is taken for purification before going to heaven.

But from the scriptures the word of God says that man dies then awaits his Judgement when Jesus Christ comes back in the last times.

And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,( Hebrews 9:27).

Therefore the spirit world is a place where our spirit goes to wait until we receive the gift of resurrection. This will be the times when our spirits will be united with our glorified bodies.

After glorification everyone will be judged by Jesus Christ according to whatever they did while here on earth. I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom. ( 2 Timothy 4:1)

This is because God committed all Judgement to His Son Jesus Christ. For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,( John 5:22)

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. ( 2 Corinthians 5:10).

Therefore just like in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man, we have a chance to prepare our destiny while living her on earth as after death there is no room for change of character or repentance just the same way the rich man had no chance to do that.

Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. ( 2 Corinthians 5:9). This is what happens when we die.
