The world we are living in now is so deceptive to the extent that one may feel comfortable because of the possessions he has acquired on this earth forgetting the core value of life which is his soul.

Jesus Christ while teaching His disciples on the best place to store wealth gave them this parable in the gospel of Luke 12:16-20. That one day the ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully.

And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods.

And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

Living in this world without the concern about the last day is like living in this world like the man in the above parable. All human beings should have the conscience that one day the world will come to an end.

This will make a man count the number of his days that he lives in this earth and therefore gain the heart of wisdom. This is exactly what Moses prayed to God.

The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.( Psalms 90:10:12).

Jesus told His disciples that the day of the Lord will come as a thief at night a day that no one will be expecting.

What is the importance of gaining the knowledge of the end of days to us?

  1. Helps us to be watchful and prepared.

Christians are called upon to be alert and prepared for the coming of the Lord just as the bride prepares to receive her bridegroom.

The parable of the ten virgins.( Mathew 25:1-13) explains it clear that among the ten virgins, five were wise and five fools . The wise ones made sure that they had enough oil for their lamps for they didn’t know when the bride would come.

The foolish ones didn’t carry enough oil because they weren’t concern about the arrival time of the bridegroom.

Unfortunately the bride arrived late in the midnight at the time their lamps were going off. They rushed to the wise virgins but they couldn’t get help as the wise virgins had only oil enough for their lamps.

They were advised to go and buy and as they had gone the bridegroom came and those who were ready came with him to the wedding and the doors were closed. When the foolish virgins came back they found that the doors were locked and were not allowed in.

Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.( Mathew 25:13)

  1. Helps us to live holy and godly lives.

If we really have the knowledge that Jesus Christ is coming to judge the world at the end of the days we will chose to be found in Him righteous and holy. Which was also the prayer of Apostle Peter.

Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; ( 2 Peter 3:14)
