Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. ( Mathew 5:16).

The power of light is only seen clearly in times of darkness. The world we currently live in is so dark and that is to why Jesus Christ left us here so that we might display His light to the world and maybe save it from eternal destruction.

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. ( Mathew 5:14-15)

How can Christians let their lights shine in dark places?

  1. Not conforming to the patterns of this world.

One hindrance to Christians not shining as light is their conformity to the patterns of this world. Doing things the way the world and its systems does. Something that Apostle Paul warned the believers in Rome.( Romans 12:1-2)

Christians should not learn how to do things from the world and its systems instead the manifold wisdom of God should be made manifest to the world through the church. The church should act as an example and a mirror to the world in all aspects of life.

If someone wants to see how things are done should first look at the world and get a good example. But does this happen always? In most times believers tend to copy everything that the world does and try to Christianize it.

To the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places,( Ephesians 3:10)

Believers in Christ Jesus should never love the world and the things in the world as  friendship to the world is enmity with God. No matter how glamorous the world and its systems are, it should never make a believer tend to think that is the right way to do or go.

Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.( James 4:4).

  1. Living a blameless and harmless life here on the earth.

Light and darkness can never mix. A Christian or believer in Christ Jesus should never be always found in faults. The whole world is always observing at the characters of those who call themselves Christians. This is never about our freedom to do whatever we want but our commitment to live lives that are Christ like.

There should be a clear difference in the lifestyle of believers and non-believers just the same way we can separate sheep from God. God is never pleased with lukewarm believers, they are neither hot not cold God says that He will vomit them.

You will only let your light shine in this dark world if only you observe your character.

Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, ( Philippians 2:14-15)

Finally let it be known that the light that we will bear doesn’t come from us or through our own efforts as it is God who is working in us to produce the light once we corporate with God and the Holy Spirit ( Philippians 2:13)

We are only required to abide by the True Vine ( Jesus Christ) and arise so as Christ to shine through us as we reflect it to the lost dark world.

Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”( Ephesians 5:14).
