Prayer is the grace that God has bestowed upon man and a channel in which man has been given a chance to communicate with God.

Whether God hears our prayers or not will depend on our motives and our walk with God. This depends on whether we are living righteous lives and conducting ourselves according to the will of God. When we do the two we have confidence in prayer.

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.(1 John 5:14-15)

This means that we should first know the will of God before we commit ourselves in prayer. His will is only found in His word. This means that we should be in constant reading and meditating upon His word as we learn His will upon our lives. This means that any prayer that is done outside the will of God is never heard by God.

Unrighteousness is also another hindrance to our prayer life. We cannot walk in sin and yet expect God to hear our prayers. Our God is holy and morally pure and doesn’t associate Himself with sin.

God spoke to the Nation of Israel and told them like this; If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.( 2 Chronicles 7:14-15)

When Jesus Christ had healed the man who was born blind and many people started questioning him about the miracle, he told them like this; Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.( John 9:31)

One thing about God is that He knows us very well, there is nothing that is hidden before His eyes. We cannot live in hypocrisy and yet pretend to be having a good relationship with God. God is watching us, He knows our thoughts from afar, He knows what is in our hearts or minds even before we open our hearts to speak.

Jesus Christ told His disciples that for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known.( Luke 12:2). When we have hidden things in our hearts that we don’t want to confess then we go to the Lord in prayer our hearts will just condemn us.

For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.(1 John 3:20).

When we pray with our hearts condemning us we will not have confidence in our prayers. But if we confess our sins and live righteous lives our hearts will not condemn us.

Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. ( 1 John 3:21-22)

Therefore,  Jesus Christ will hear our prayers if only we walk according to His will and live righteous lives that pleases Him.
